12 Temper Tantrum Tips
Twelve Temper Tantrum Tips:
- It’s okay to cry unless a child hurts themselves or others.
- Then you tell a child what they cannot do, always tell them what they can do.
- Give choices: can you come down by yourself or do you need help?
- No threats or endless repetition, move into action!
- You can be firm and fair, always follow through
- Creative consequences = learning without shame
- Arouse empathy: extremely important! “look at my face, that hurt”.
- Discipline yourselves, role modelling
- Catch them doing good.Focus on the positive.
- Validate each child’s position example: You really wanted that toy, I don;t blame you, it’s fabulous but ….
- Choose meaningful rules and eliminate some, especially when things are out of control
- Be consistent!
