Working Together For Our Children

Meet The Early Years Family Development Centre Inc. and The Child Behavior Certification Program. Founded in 1996 providing pre-school programs, child development workshops and personal family coaching and parent education, The Early Years has been providing tools that encourage parents, with the safety in which to grow their skills while respecting their own parenting expertise. Whether you are a parent or a student and graduate of The Early Years, together we are building foundations that respect the unity of the family and teach and mentor children to make healthy choices that will last a lifetime. The “Tools in your Pocket” counseling approach allows every parent to experience success at their own pace and according to their personal family needs.

It is critical we motivate and inspire children while setting rules and guidelines. Knowledge can only go so far, and so we provide that “safe place” where parents can see the great things they are already doing and the energy to embrace each situation and the belief that all children want to “get it right” and want to be enjoyed. Every obstacle, every problem has an answer.

A note from Sharyn

As founder, it is my pleasure and my passion to pass on the knowledge and skill set I have acquired over the last 33+ years bringing a unique form of communication that helps parents, caregivers and educators have a sense of hope and energy. Within this program, course material includes developmental milestones, what we know about children based on brain science and the art of compassionate and wise communication. In keeping with best practices in Early Childhood and beyond, I can confidently say that educators, parents, care givers and extended family members share a common desire to help “grow” children to be strong communicators, enjoy healthy relationships, learn “how to think” and not just “what to think”, building resiliency, enjoyment and competence. It has always been my dream to provide a healthy space and programs that are inclusive, celebrating each child as unique and important members of their families, their classroom and community.

The Early Years Family Development Centre Journey

In The Early 1990’s

It was in the early 1990’s that The Early Years was first developed for a local community centre, guiding parents, providing programming for children from birth- 3 years as well as staff training and professional
development.

In The Fall Of 1996

In the Fall of 1996, under the direction of founder Sharyn Timerman, The Early Years Family Development Centre Inc. opened its doors as a private nursery school for children ages 15 months- 4 years. We began with 30 families and 5 years later, there were 100 families registered in toddler and pre-school programs. Positive Parenting was always integrated carefully into all facets of school life and so there were many workshops, parenting courses and individualized coaching. We were a staff of 16 people with a strong mandate for professional development and mentorship, facilitating the growth of each staff member both uniquely as individuals and as a team.

In 2001

In 2001 it was time for a change and one that brought about what The Early Years and CBCP brings to the world of children today. Although selling the actual school, The Early Years itself continued to grow in a different way, carving out a path that led to reaching more families, educators, communities locally as well as internationally. There were monthly “women’s groups”, meeting once a month for 7-month sessions. Private consultations were and continue to be the “heart of the work”. Workshops and webinars, professional development within daycares and elementary schools, consultations with Nanny’s, reaching out to the other caregivers. Observing and Reporting in the classroom when a child is having difficulty have all been part of the child behavior journey.

In 2012

In 2012 a new relationship began with Deborah Pedrick, founder of “The Family Sleep Institute”. We began to work out a plan to educate sleep consultants in Early Childhood matters, equipping them to extend their services beyond sleep. While not replacing the expertise of a child behavior specialist, it would add another layer to the work they were already doing.
With this is mind, a program was designed specifically for FSI the “Family Sleep Institute” teaching behaviour milestones and the effects of sleep through their own certification program as well as webinars and daily dialogues.

In 2018

In 2018 The Child Behavior Certification Program launched its Pilot Project, providing a 12-week program to a focus group of 4. This was a “test”, a newly formed project that exceeded our expectations and brings us to where we are at today: CBCP is an intensive 16 week program plus 12 additional hours of added specialized classes and over 95 certified graduates bringing education and inspiration all over the world.
